Shanghai upgrade gets a launch date; ETH stakers heave a sigh of relief

The highly-anticipated Shanghai upgrade  also called Shapella, that would enable the withdrawal of staked Ethereum [ETH] has finally got a mainnet launch date, as decided during the network’s All Core Developers Call.

Much to the relief of stakers, Ethereum developers arrived at the consensus that 12 April will be the date for the hard fork after lead developer Tim Beiko proposed three dates for the month.

Earlier this week, the Shapella upgrade was executed on the Goerli testnet which was the last dress rehearsal before the eventual mainnet launch.

Before Goerli, the Sepolia testnet was successfully upgraded to simulate the hard fork. However, the latest one on Goerli saw a dip in participation rates because validator nodes didn’t upgrade.
